September 30, 2008In a remote area in a small country somewhere in the southeastern part of Asia, a working-class 23 year old, single mom secretly presses the Alt + Tab keys on her computer, switching from one window to another, afraid of being caught by her Korean employer viewing gruesome and pornographic pictures in a forum website named 4chan.
That’s typically how you describe my life every 4-6 pm while I was pregnant with my baby.
My boyfriend introduced me to it and maybe out of my deprived perverted cravings and my curiosity, I got hooked to it. It replaced my cravings for cigarette, not minding its psychological effect on my unborn child. But since she’s my daughter, I think she could well handle it.
The site has become a phenomenon, not for the pop-culture-hungry, straight and square population but for the sick, perverted, delusional and real crappy people (including me). Some parents would think that it is a bad influence and that it should be banned. In fact, the site had been banned a lot of times, not only for its content but also for the things it does to people – I won’t tell you what its effects are, you should go and try it for your self.

Though I also think that the site goes beyond what should be posted on a free access website, I think the site is a very good example that amidst the controlling dominance of institutions that impose order, there is still this space in this world that allows people to unleash what is really going on in their minds. It is of course slap to the face to people who have been trying hard to maintain what they want to maintain (the social order and all those b***s***ing), but who cares about them?!
To put it simply, thanks to technology people have a place to show their true colors. But also no thanks to technology for opening sites that cater to the bizarre behavior of people that strikes shock to the straightedge populace.
